The movie tells a melancholic story of a little girl who is living in a city in the north. She is fascinated by the secrets of the south which seem to be hidden in the personality of her father.
Alma is a young girl with emotional problems and a special relationship with her grandfather Ramón, an old country man who stopped talking about 12 years ago after his son, Alma's father, sold a 2000-years-old olive tree in order to open a restaurant. Dominated by the sadness and the melancholia by the loss of his most beloved tree, Ramon spends his days visiting the place where the olive tree was planted, hoping the day the tree returns. Unable to bear the situation any longer, Alma looking for the olive tree, discovering that it was acquired by a Germany's energy company located in Dusseldorf. Without money or resources, Alma convinces her uncle Alcachofa and her friend Rafa to go in a truck from Spain to Germany to recover the tree, starting a travel with unexpected consequences for everyone.

2019, City of Valencia (Valencia; East to Spain). At her 45-years, Rosa is a woman at the edge of the abyss: besides her work as costume designer for movies, she as a full-time second work helping to her dysfunctional family: her older brother Armando is an English teacher which marriage with Marga is close to the divorce, with two children that ignore him openly; her sister Violeta works as interpreter in conferences who feels displaced by her young partners, fearing to be fired by it; her daughter Lidia lives in Manchester with her absent-husband Johnny caring their baby twins; her father Antonio, an aging widow who still misses his wife two years after her death, tells Rosa his intention to move with her unable to live alone in his own house; and as if it wasn't enough, her boyfriend Rafa is a man with too much work unable to listen Rosa when she talks him. Overwhelmed by the situation, Rosa travels her natal town Benicassim to visit the former tailor shop of her mother. Dreaming with a new life where she can be free and happy, Rosa decides reopen the shop at the same time that wants to seal this new life with a drastic decision: marry with herself. While Armando and Violeta turns crazy searching for a missed Rosa, Lidia returns Spain with the baby twins, just to find Rosa's house empty and with no furniture. Realizing where she is Armando, Violeta and Lidia travels Benicassim to discover Rosa's intention to marry. Thinking wrongly that Rosa marries with Rafa, Armando turns by himself in the wedding planner obsessed with the idea to give his sister a wedding in style, while the news runs like gunpowder by the town. With Lidia feeling a stranger to her mother eyes, Violeta receiving bad news from her job and Armando planning to sell the tailor shop to make extensions in his school, Rosa finds herself unintentionally in the eye of the hurricane, looking for a way to explain her true intentions before her own wedding gets out of hand.
On July 29, 2000 in Tolosa, Guipúzcoa, and while he was with a close friend in a bar, three ETA's terrorists kill to the former Civil Governor of Guipúzcoa Juan María Jaúregui, tearing apart his wife Maixabel Lasa and their 19 years old daughter María. Eleven years later, María is married and mother of a baby girl, and her mother leads the Association of the Victims of Terrorism, to remember the dead and hurts by ETA and get a chance for reconciliation and peace. Ibon Etxezarreta, one of Jaúregui's assassins, is moved to the jail of Nanclares de la Oca to be close of his aging mother, meeting in Nanclares with other of the killers, Luis Carrasco. Exiled of the band by this rejection to the violence and the armed fight, Luis and Ibon try reconcile their lives with the past and the crimes committed, while the others ETA inmates of the jail repudiate them. When Maixabel organizes a series of jail meeting between killers and victims in an attempt to approach positions, Luis requests to meet Maixabel for asking forgiveness, while Ibon learns during a brief prison permit that his former friends reject him too, finding himself totally alone, turned in outcast for everyone. Despite María's objection and her fear to lose her mother as she lost her father, Maixabel agrees to meet Luis in Nanclares, trying understand not only the happened but why it happened. Trapped by the remembers of the people he killed and pain caused to their friends and relatives, Ibon requests his own meeting with Maixabel as a first step for the redemption, but then he is reported that the authorities have canceled the meetings, leaving her with a more complicated option for Maixabel if she agreed to Ibon's request: meeting with him during another prison permit outside the jail, where there is no the same security. Inspired on true events, Maixabel is a story not only about terror and pain, but the ability to forgive and leave the hate behind.
